NEW DELHI: Kia Sonet or Toyota Urban Cruiser: Which is more exciting? Both the B-SUVs have kicked off their journey. Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand, is setting up incubation centres to tap potential start-ups in mobility space. VW Group made big promises on the electric vehicle. Brakes on Chinese imports: As vehicle sales slumped, auto component imports from China fell 12% in FY19-20 at $4 billion, down from $4.6 billion in FY18-19 said auto parts apex body Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA). However, China still remains the top import country for India with 26% share of all auto component imports.
Maruti Suzuki to nurture start-ups: India’s largest automaker has tied up with IIM-Bangalore to incubate start ups working in technology-based innovations that can be applied in the automobile and mobility sector. This is the first move by a car company to help early-stage startups scale into large scale entities. The program will be for six months.

Sonet takes first innings lead over Seltos: Call it a friendly battle among siblings or a fierce rivalry between two products catering to different segment, the headlines remain that the Kia Sonet’s first-day bookings have been more than that of Kia Seltos. Kia Motors India on Friday revealed that its all-new sub-compact SUV Sonet has recorded 6,523 bookings on the first day. Seltos, which was introduced in July 2019, clocked 6,046 bookings on the first day itself. Kia Motors India premiered the Sonet in the first week of August and the car can be booked through the official website by paying an initial booking amount of Rs 25,000.
Urban Cruiser in-bound: The bookings for Toyota’s all-new compact SUV, Urban Cruiser have begun on Saturday, August 22. The new SUV can pre-booked online against an initial amount of Rs 11, 000. The rebadged Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is expected to launch during the upcoming festive season. Toyota has also partially revealed about the engine specifications and creature comforts of the SUV.

Launches this week: Audi and Ducati are all-set to drive in RS Q8 and Panigale V2. Ducati has already started accepting the pre-bookings for the new bike. It can be booked against an initial amount of Rs 1 lakh. The Panigale V2 is an all-new motorcycle from the ground up and will become the entry model into the revered Panigale superbike family. On the other hand, Audi India has dropped another teaser of the upcoming SUV, RS Q8 right before its launch on August 27.
Honda two-wheelers also took to social media to teases its upcoming motorcycle, which the company is planning to launch on August 27. The video reveals an athletic and edgy frame, and the motorcycle is likely to be positioned between Honda Hornet/X-Blade and Honda CBR300R. The two-wheeler major has remained tight-lipped about the product, however, it is expected to be 200-cc motorcycle, touted to be CB Hornet 200R.

EV around the globe: Volkswagen has already dropped multiple teasers of the all-new electric SUV, ID.4. According to the latest update by the German automaker, the ID.4 will be revealed in a matter of weeks. But, the production has already started in The ID.4 compact SUV is claimed to be an affordable EV and it is also the first in line of EVs being launched in US.
Skoda Auto has again revealed the lighting design of the upcoming electric SUV, Enyaq iV. With a completely new approach to the designing language, Skoda Auto is also bringing fresh new lighting elements to their first electric SUV. The premiere is scheduled for September 1.

Lunaz, a British company specialising in integrating electric powertrain in classic cars, has unveiled the world’s first electric Rolls-Royce, the classic Phantom V. The Rolls-Royce Phantom V by Lunaz is designed to be driven every day with no concession to range anxiety. Lunaz claims that its 120 kWh battery is the largest electric battery in the world. It claims that the battery has a range of at least 480 km.
Elon Musk took to Twitter to confirm that Tesla cars will soon have a feature which will allow for music to be played from speakers placed on the exterior body.
